The Escapist, Mosquito Bikes own steel bike for UK conditions.
Introducing the Escapist, Mosquito’s very own handbuilt road bike. The Escapist frame is built in the UK from the acclaimed Columbus Life tubeset, by framebuilder Jon Chicken, in his Brighton workshop. The frame has been designed by Mosquito Director Roger Graver with input from co-directors Phil Burnett and Gill Ord. The complete bike is built up in the Mosquito workshop using selected componentry and Mosquito handbuilt wheels.
Complete bike pricing from £2200 – including a free bike fitting, lifetimes free servicing and custom or stock geometry.
Using knowledge built up over many years of bike fitting and custom frame design, Roger has worked with UK framebuilder Jon Chicken to come up with a frame that both looks great and is perfect for UK conditions.
How does it ride?
Ride testing was handled by Mosquito Director Phil Burnett, who has raced steel, carbon and aluminium road bikes for over 25 years and with a 2.5 hour commute in from the Surrey Hills appreciates comfort and performance. “The idea behind the bike is to produce a bike which is ideal for UK riding conditions and roads – Audax, sportives, light touring etc,” says Phil. “Riding the bike on my extended 2.5 hour commute I’ve been really struck by the smoothness of the ride. Over the cobbled sections and infamous Surrey potholes it really helped smooth things out – it would be great for a long day without feeling beaten up. Power transfer felt good, I think aided by the chunkier rear chainstays.”
